Arbitrator & Mediator With Over 20 Years of Domestic and International Corporate and Transactional Experience

Myrna Barakat is a commercial arbitrator and mediator based in New York City with over 20 years’ experience in domestic and cross-border transactional matters. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center. She serves on the AAA Commercial Arbitrator Panel, CPR Arbitrator and Mediator Panels (Banking, Accounting and Financial Services, Cyber, Insurance), FINRA Arbitrator Panel, Qatar International Center for Arbitration and Conciliation Arbitrator Panel, and NY State Mediator Roster (NYC, Westchester, Queens and Suffolk).  She is also listed as an arbitrator by the ICC and the LCIA.

Myrna divides her time acting as a neutral and advising on strategic growth initiatives. She is the Founder and Managing Director of MB Corporate Advisory Partners (MBCAP), a boutique corporate and strategic advisory firm. Prior to establishing MBCAP, she was a Managing Director–Corporate Development and Chief M&A Counsel at CIT Group (2005-2008). Myrna started her career practicing corporate law at Hughes Hubbard & Reed (1997-1998) and Sullivan & Cromwell (1998-2005), counseling national and foreign corporations and financial institutions on a broad array of securities offerings, mergers, acquisitions and other business combinations. 

Myrna has worked on matters involving insurers, reinsurers, MGAs, banks and asset managers, as well as fintech, insurtech, cybersecurity and cryptocurrency initiatives. She has advised on transactions in the US, Canada, Australia, Russia, Eastern and Western Europe and throughout the MENAT region. She is a member of the NY Bar and is a graduate of McGill University’s Faculty of Law (earning both a JD and a Bachelor in Civil Law) and Faculty of Management (Economics and Finance).  Myrna is fluent in English, French and Arabic.
